San Diego has the best climate to enjoy the outdoors, and one of the best ways to improve the look of your outdoors and yard is to replace your fence.  A new fence is also a good way to increase the value of property and improve security.   The best part about replacing your fence is that most of the time you can split the cost of the fence with the neighbor you share it with.
A new trend with homeowners in San Diego these days is to create a more modern look by is running fence boards horizontal.
There are many options for materials to use for a fence such as redwood, cedar, composites, etc.  Any exposed lumber should always be treated with a preservative coating such as a quality stain.    Always do a test sample before staining the entire fence.  Another tip is to stain all the lumber before it is constructed.  This way each piece of lumber can be properly stained.  Amateurs will always try to stain a fence afterwards with a sprayer, but never looks as good and you can not stain the cut edges once constructed.  Always use pressure treated posts about 2ft into the ground for a 6ft tall fence.

Building a high quality fence takes a experienced carpenter. Especially building the gates.  It is important that your gate closes nice and smoothly and that the gate does not sag.   Many gates are not properly built with diagonal braces which causes the gate to sag.  Before hiring a Fence contractor in San Diego take a close look at their work.  It is worth paying a little more to high a professional who takes pride in their work. Also Check San Diego building codes before construction.
It is also good to contact San Diego public utilities before digging holes in areas which could have gas lines, electrical, water, phone lines, water, cable television which a good fence contractor will do this before they begin so they can mark the underground pipes with spray paint if any.    For a free estimate and consultation in the San Diego area contact PacifiCoastal Design and visit our website @ http://www.pacificoastaldesign.com or contact us @ (858)405-7880
